About

An independent New Zealand line of credit guide and calculator.

Lineofcredit.org.nz is built for New Zealand businesses deciding whether a revolving facility is the right shape and what one actually costs. The calculator is free and collects nothing. Eight pages cover the facilities themselves, four cover how a limit is actually used, and eight guides cover the mechanics underneath, from how drawdown and interest work to what a lender looks at when it sets a limit.

What we do

Education, a calculator, and a single referral path.

This is not a lender, a broker or a registered financial adviser. It does not arrange credit, hold client money, or give personalised financial advice. The site occupies a narrow regulatory lane, which is educational content, what New Zealand's advice regime calls class information, plus a calculator producing indicative repayment figures from inputs the reader sets.

When a reader uses the calculator's "See if you qualify" button, the handoff reaches Prospa, a New Zealand business finance provider. Prospa asks its own questions, runs its own credit assessment, and provides a firm quote and funding where a business is eligible. No calculator inputs travel with the handoff, so the application begins fresh on Prospa's own site.

Lineofcredit.org.nz is paid a referral commission by Prospa on funded facilities. The commission comes from Prospa rather than from the borrower, and it does not change the rate, fees or terms Prospa offers. Prospa is an unsecured cash-flow lender rather than a provider of revolving facilities, which fits some situations well and others poorly, and the partner page says which is which.

Editorial approach

Indicative only, primary sources, no rate promises.

Every numeric claim involving rates, fees, eligibility or sector data is hedged or sourced. Verifiable claims cite a primary New Zealand source, which in practice means Inland Revenue, MBIE, the Companies Office, WorkSafe, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Stats NZ or the Commerce Commission. Nothing here is paraphrased from a comparison site or from a lender's marketing pages, because paraphrasing another publisher adopts their claims, including any that were never substantiated. The full editorial rulebook lives in the project repository and is applied to every page before it ships.

No specific rate is ever quoted as available, no approval or approval speed is ever promised, Prospa is never described as best or cheapest for every borrower, and no reader is ever told what to do. Where the options genuinely diverge, such as an overdraft against a term loan, the trade is described from both sides rather than resolved into a verdict.

Tax-treatment statements covering GST, deductibility and depreciation are general in nature and carry the accountant caveat in the same sentence as the claim rather than once at the bottom of the page. The treatment depends on the accounting basis, the timing of the return and the specific arrangement, and the accountant is the person with all three.

Compliance posture

FMC Act Part 2, Fair Trading Act, and the limits of "class information".

The fair-dealing provisions in Part 2 of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 apply to a content site, not only to lenders, and the 2022 amendments extended them explicitly to unsubstantiated representations. That is the reason for the hedging throughout. The Fair Trading Act 1986 imposes parallel obligations on non-financial claims.

No regulated financial advice is provided here, as defined under the Financial Services Legislation Amendment Act and Part 6 of the FMC Act. Most business revolving credit falls outside the retail-client definition because the borrower is a company rather than a natural person. Sole-trader and personal-guarantor cases can reach the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003, which is why the posture is class information across every page rather than only on the ones where it is strictly required.

No personal information is collected through this site, and there is no contact form anywhere on it. Calculator inputs stay in the browser and are never transmitted. Any lead capture happens on Prospa's own domain, where the appropriate framework sits with them.

How the content is produced

Written against a rulebook, and checked by a linter.

Every page on this site is written against a documented set of rules covering what may be claimed, how numbers must be framed, and where a caveat has to sit. Those rules are not aspirational. They are checked mechanically before anything is published, by a linter that reads the prose and fails the build where a rate is stated as available, an approval is promised, a statistic appears without a source or a hedge, a tax claim appears without the accountant caveat in the same sentence, or a sentence tells a reader what to do rather than describing what businesses commonly do.

The same checks run against the built output rather than only the source, because a rule that holds in a file and not on the page has not held. The referral path is counted on every published page, every internal link is resolved against what actually exists, and the whole site is checked for any trace of a domain it should not be naming.

None of that makes the content correct. It makes a particular class of error impossible to ship quietly, which is a narrower claim and a more honest one. Corrections are still welcome, and the contact page sets out what happens to one.

Indicative content only. Nothing on this site is personalised financial advice. Final rates, fees and approval decisions are made by the lender after its own assessment.

Disclaimer

Indicative content only. Not personalised financial advice.

A revolving facility is a standing commitment serviced out of the same operating cash flow as everything else, and the interest and fees recur for as long as it is held. Modelling the weekly cost against the trading position before committing is what this site is built for. Borrowing at a level that stays comfortable through a quiet quarter, rather than only through a strong one, is widely regarded as the safer frame.

What this site is

A calculator and information tool. Not a lender, not a broker, not a registered financial adviser. Nothing here is personalised financial advice.

What the figures show

Modelled estimates based on the inputs shown. Not a quote. Not an offer of credit. Not a guarantee of approval, rate or fees.

What the lender decides

Final rates, fees, and approval are set by the lender after a CCCFA-appropriate assessment of the applicant's circumstances and credit decision.

Commercial disclosure

Lineofcredit.org.nz earns a commission from Prospa when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. The commission is paid by Prospa, not by the borrower, and it does not influence the rate Prospa offers. Full disclosure on the partner page.

Tax, GST, and accountant framing

Tax-treatment statements (GST claim timing, interest deductibility, depreciation rates) are general in nature and subject to the accountant's confirmation on the specific business position. For material amounts, professional advice from a registered financial adviser or chartered accountant is widely regarded as the safer frame.

Important information

About this site, the figures, and your protections.

Last reviewed 8 September 2026.

1. What this site is

Lineofcredit.org.nz is a New Zealand education site and a free repayment calculator. It is not a lender, not a broker, and not a registered financial adviser. We do not arrange credit, hold client money, or provide regulated financial advice as defined under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 Part 6 or the Financial Services Legislation Amendment Act 2019. Nothing on this site is personalised financial advice.

2. The calculator and figures

All numbers shown by the calculator, in worked examples, and across the site are indicative only and modelled from the inputs entered. The figures are not a quote, not an offer of credit, and not a guarantee of the rate, fees, term, or approval available to any specific business. Final pricing, fees, and approval are set by the lender after the lender's own credit assessment.

3. General information, not advice

Content on this site is general information (class information). It does not take into account the financial situation, objectives, or needs of any particular business or person. Before making a borrowing decision, professional advice from a licensed Financial Advice Provider, a chartered accountant, or a solicitor is widely regarded as the safer frame, particularly where amounts are material or the borrowing involves a personal guarantee.

4. Commercial relationship with Prospa

When a calculator user clicks "see if you qualify", the application hands off to Prospa, our New Zealand SME finance partner. Lineofcredit.org.nz earns a referral commission from Prospa when a referred application converts to a funded loan. The commission is paid by Prospa, not by the borrower, and does not change the rate, fees, or terms Prospa offers the business. We do not claim Prospa is the cheapest or best lender for every applicant. Full disclosure is on our partner page.

5. Tax, GST, and accountant framing

Tax-treatment statements (GST claim timing, interest deductibility, depreciation rates) on this site are general in nature and subject to confirmation by the accountant on the specific business position. For material amounts, professional tax advice from a chartered accountant is widely regarded as the safer frame. Inland Revenue is the primary source for any specific NZ tax-treatment question.

6. Privacy and personal information

Consistent with the Privacy Act 2020, we do not run lead-capture forms on this site. Calculator inputs stay in the browser and are not transmitted to a server we control. We use Google Analytics 4 for aggregate, non-personal traffic data only. When a visitor clicks through to Prospa they leave our site, and Prospa's privacy policy applies. The Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 (CCCFA) framework applies at the lender level where a sole trader's borrowing is wholly or predominantly for personal use, or where a personal guarantor is involved.

7. Fair dealing posture

This site operates under the fair-dealing requirements of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 Part 2 and the Fair Trading Act 1986. We avoid misleading or deceptive conduct, false representations, and unsubstantiated claims. Numeric or regulatory claims are hedged or sourced to a primary New Zealand authority such as Inland Revenue, MBIE, the Companies Office, WorkSafe, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Stats NZ, the Commerce Commission or the Financial Markets Authority.

8. Limitation of liability and governing law

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, Lineofcredit.org.nz, its operators and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage (direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise) arising from use of the site or reliance on its content, indicative figures, or third-party information. These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes are to be resolved in New Zealand courts.
